Tony Clements – Tuba Performer, Conductor, and Educator
Tony Clements is a veteran tuba performer, conductor, and educator based in California. With a career spanning over 40 years, he is known for his expressive musicianship, strong leadership, and dedication to music education.
Tony studied at California State University, Northridge, where he was mentored by the legendary tubist Tommy Johnson. Since then, he has performed with many top ensembles in Northern California, including the San Francisco Symphony and San Jose Symphony. His warm tone and musical versatility have made him a sought-after performer in orchestral, solo, and chamber settings.
Clements served as Director of Bands at California State University, Hayward (now Cal State East Bay), where he taught conducting, brass techniques, and led the wind ensemble. Today, he continues to inspire students through private teaching, clinics, and adjudication.
He currently conducts the Ohlone Symphonic Band in Fremont, California, leading the ensemble in dynamic performances and community engagement. A longtime member of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (ITEA), Tony is active in promoting the low brass community through advocacy, mentorship, and support for new music.
